Updates + ToyCon Day1

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 16, 2008, 12:59 PM

It's been weeks since in school started and how I just love seeing our white washed, Camp Big Falcon-of-a-building in the morning.

On the first day, I was astounded by the amazing influx of new faces, all prepped up and dressed to impress. It dawned on me that I completely forgot it was the start of the new school year - meaning, fresh new blood had just enrolled.

It's funny, I never imagined the day would come that I'd actually feel like a...senior - older, more deliberate with my actions, and far less enthused with the college environs as these bright hopefuls. It's a pretty warped feeling being surrounded by the aura of energized talk about classes, where to hang out and eat, and all such hype knowing full well that I was once like that. Although I relish my development through routine and experience, I can't help but wonder when it was that that infectious school buzz first began to leave my veins.

This is how I know people readily underestimate the power of vacations in fueling the creative mind, and the fact that I shall be graduating fairly soon. >__<

Anyway, I've been working on some new illustrations which I have yet to post and I shall be particularly focused on my thesis production and OJT documentation this term, so do forgive me if I fail to post or reply to messages. I promise to sift through them when I have the proper time. *pinky swear*

While I was not able to attend the Mangaholix con due to unforseen circumstances, I finally managed to reunite with the rest of the team for Toycon.

The initial, most perfect plan was to get to Essa's place for lunch and some gift-giving c/o Jin, Miguel, and myself, head out to Megamall for the con, meet up with the rest of the group and watch Kung-Fu Panda since Jin and my boyfriend, Francis haven't seen it yet, then return to the con, have dinner and get on home.

Perfectly perfect if not for the fact that Jin, Kat, and myself ran insanely late and pretty much set everything back. Lol, trust us girls and our amazing sense of time. :P

Apart from that, getting to Megamall was, without a shadow of a doubt, hellish. Traffic took us about 1 1/2 hours on the road trying to find parking space and by then, Rayson, Kat, and I were literally screeching in the car, going absolutely nutters. I think we were scaring Kat's little brother, Lester, who was in the car with us at the time.

After much of the initial stress dealt with, we reunited with everybody at Mocha Blends.

Quite the chopsuey group we were:

:iconbehindinfinity: as Shippuuden Naruto
:iconmoonlightflight: as Shippuuden Hinata
:iconmerkymerx: as Shippuuden Sasuke
:iconken-chan-byakushi: as Young Hinata
:iconsolstice-somier: as Young Naruto
:iconsnowpeachdrop: as Asuka Langley-Soryu
:iconkiksology: as Speed Racer
:icon13idiotbox: & :iconsabotenshi: as the Amakura Twins from Fatal Frame2
:iconsinag-araw: as ...an Akatasuki Darth Vader pirate

We were also in the good company of Essa *Cyfliq, Sandra Dans ~littlesailboat, Charmie ~yaoiangel14 and Fran.

It was Fran's first time attending a convention with me so I deviated from the rest of the group and took the time to tour the vicinity with him. We went around with Sandee in search for some 20buck comic books and action figures. There was a lot of nifty stuff to be had, in fact I think this was my first time to properly take a good look at the merchandise because in the past as a group, we would stand around for pictures and not have much time to check everything out in the convention area all at once.

It was a nice breather just being able to walk around and I actually feel stupid now for not having been able to take snapshots because I hadn't charged my camera previously. Damn.

At some point, we bumped into Jin, Kat and the kids but they were rushing out of the con much to everyone's confusion.

I realize now what it must have felt like for everyone when we'd often do that in previous cons like in the last Ozinefest. T__T In which case, I apologize again to everyone whom we ever inconvenienced during those random, rushed times.

So anyway, while everyone was running about, Fran and I discovered Miguel who was apparently separated from the Naruto group and was for a few moments lost.

Eventually, everyone met up at Bubble Tea for some much needed rest and refreshments. There, we were joined by Donna, Louise, Kune, Ash, Deacon, and company. Our table kept expanding ridiculously in that it seemed like we made up 90% of the customers there. I hope the staff wasn't too trouble with our ruckus. :P

Amidst all the pictures, cool drinks, yummy sushi and the usual rowdy conversations, Francis decides to introduce us to the infamous "Up-Down Bread" from Bread Talk, rumored to taste delicious on the first bite and then follow up with a disgusting after-taste, hence the term Up-Down like you're going to Heaven first and then straight to the fiery pits of Hell the next.

He got us one to share as a group; if in case the after-taste was really crap, we needn't have to worry about finishing the rest.

I had first dibs. Everyone was anticipating when I'd get to the Hellish aftertaste part...but I never seemed to get there. LOL. There is no DOWN for me.

Ysabel took a bite after me in the hope of finding that aftertaste. She was so funny, she actually wanted to taste it! XP

And then Lester tried it out, but like before, there seemed to be no DOWN state. Fran, you liar-chan!

As you can all see, everyone pretty much tried it, even Francis. And judging by the look of Miguel's face, that bread was pretty darned good. :P
Our only conclusion was that Bread Talk changed their recipe. Perhaps the Down state was an initial joke and they decided it was time to take that ingredient out. Still though, I admit along with Ysabel that it would've been fun if they still kept it. :P

You see this drink Ysabel's stirring? It is the DRINK OF DOOM. A disgusting concoction of wasabi, ginger, Up-Down bread, leftovers from the other drinks, and God knows what else.
Ah yes, in our fits of randomness, we can pretty much act like 5yr olds playing with food. Ysabel nearly threw up looking at what we were putting in it, lol.

LESTER, DON'T DO Iiiii....too late.
Seriously though, he actually had a tiny sip of that gunk. o__o
He said it was okay, only very sour and the wasabi burned his lips.

Only the worthy may have this drink touch their lips and look KINDA COOL while at it.
(Rayson, ladies and gentlemen. You need not ask why, reader.)

And with that first sip, cuteness overflows the land.
(Adorable Chappy hat Jin got me from the States.^^)

And the onlookers may only...look on...in awe.
(Essa and Charmie )

...and be filled with immeasurable joy.
(Deacon lookin' pretty good and kinda like James Iha)

Reader, I give you Sandra Dans, P-chan, Isa, and Tracyyyyy.

The twins. :) :(

Group shot before we parted ways! ^__^

Do check out Ysabel's journal entry for a more detailed account of the event and more pretty pictures.:rose:

In retrospect, it was a pretty good con. Met a lot of nice people, including Tracy's cousin ~snooperj and those nice blokes from the action figure area who had me pose in their booth, whose names I also didn't manage to get, I'M TERRIBLY SORRY!!

I was equally glad that Francis finally managed to attend a convention with me despite his natural disinclination to indulge in much of the cosplay fiasco.

And though the concentration of geeks could have easily thrown him off, he was very sweet and patient enough to hold my hand and keep me company instead of just opting to wait outside after the con.:blushes:

After dropping off Kat, Jin, and Lester, I headed out with Fran to Makati for his gig. By then, I could barely feel my legs from fatigue but seeing as how Francis went all the way to the con with me, I certainly didn't want to disappoint him by falling asleep during the gig. >__<

I managed to keep up with some chicken fingers and a bottle of beer. :)

It also happened to be our friend's girlfriend's birthday, and so it was arranged that Bandang Shirley (JIN they're coming out with their album SOON!), Twin Lobster, Musical Orgasm, and Sleepwalk Circus would play in her honor. :rose:

Fran wasn't very happy with his set at the end of it all, but then again, he is his harshest critic. Being the perfectionist that he is, he's never easily satisfied with his own work - in which case, we're quite similar that way. :P

We head on home after our goodbyes, obviously exhausted beyond reason, and I pass out on my bed, dreamless.

Another convention day ending in weary contentment, cheers!:rose:

ಠ_ಠ La cocaína no es buena para su salud.
That Asuka cosplay was very adorable! It's funny because I was just googling her in her Yellow dress the other day XD. Lol you guys sure act young for your age XD Although I'm not the most mature, either, when it comes to food with my friends. Once we were eating a Japanese grill, and I shoved all the carrot shavings off of our 'Taki tower of sushi' into my mouth, and ended up laughing so hard that it all went everywhere XDD.

Ah, good times, good times. Lol, yay for chappie hat! I want it :Q
