Update:Thank you to everyone who has expressed their sincerest concerns and are taking the time to help out in this effort as much as they can. We cannot express enough how much we truly appreciate it.
These events; however disastrous and haunting it may be to those afflicted, has, in some ray of goodness, has allowed people to work as one and restore hope, and faith in each other; most especially to the usually socially apathetic.I also appreciate the decency of people to have refrained from making any callous, insensitive, and troll-ish remarks that mean only to attract unnecessary attention and have absolutely nothing helpful to contribute.
Also, please feel free to spread the word and link back to this entry or add some of the contact info to your blogs. Thank you!
Last Saturday 9/26, a typhoon hit the Philippines' national captial region. Being a tropical country fairly used to rain, residents of Metro Manila were shocked to discover flood waters surging from the roadside and rivers, and into their homes. Pretty soon, people found themselves stranded on the road, or at work/school or worse, flocking to the upper floors and rooftops of their homes to flee the rising water.
This was something Manila hadn't experienced before, at least, not in recent history. Having experienced perhaps a month's worth of rain for only 6 hours, Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) became the great equalizer when people: rich, middle, lower class citizens from all over Metro Manila were made victims. Even some local celebrities found that their fame did little to stop themselves needing rescue from their deluged homes.
What is shocking to everyone, especially, the ordinary folk, is how this disaster hit us all where it hurt: at home. And many people unfortunately, could do little to stop it from happening.

The 2 above photos were taken at Provident Villages, a well to-do middle class area in Marikina City; which boasts of it being the cleanest city in Manila.
My friend Armi had to be rescued out of her home, along with several families. Marikina being one of the cities hardest hit by the flash floods.

An underpass located in Ayala Avenue, one of the main roads in the business district of Makati. I pass by this road nearly most of the time and I have never seen it like this.

Video of UERM Hospital, where my cousin works as a nurse. At 0:37 you'll see a woman scrambling to get out of her car as it gets washed away by the current.

While my family and friends were mostly spared from the damage,
not everyone was so fortunate.

I don't even know how people will be able to cover up for the damages. Nevermind insurance; although, I'm certain most victims might not even have that, but the emotional distress that people have and are experiencing right now will take even longer to heal.
Some of the most heart-aching sights are that of muddied corpses of men, women, children, and animals found on the streets. People are still unable to act on them quickly because the public concern is still attuned to aiding the survivors.
I can't stress enough the horror of the events that have just recently passed. What's is more horrible is being able to watch all these events take into place and feeling completely helpless to stop it.
Right now, people are still in dire need of help, in any way that we can offer it. So for those of you who have read this and would like to reach out, here's how:

thank god we live uphill and didn't experience any floods...
well, so far i'm donating relief goods through my school
But I've given donations to Kapuso Foundation, ABS-CBN Foundation, and the Storm Relief Aid from Philippine Aid, just in case one gets the relief out faster than the others.
I sincerely hope that every one of your friends and their families are safe and facing minimal damage. My prayers go out to all of you.
Good luck, and have some internet love from the United States.
