My cousin just posed a very serious dilemma: WHAT ABOUT WASTE DISPOSAL?!
All the cities share the same problem of waste disposal, and pollution and a population that constantly travels across city lines even way before the typhoon happened.
So now, while there are probably mountains of relief goods being delivered to every afflicted community in the Metro, these goods are mostly bundled up together in PLASTIC BAGS which will eventually be thrown out. With the growing pile of debris and garbage left by the storm in addition to the past and present waste issues, one has to ask: where will all that garbage go?
I've been trying to figure this out with my friends but the idea is so overwhelming when you have to consider that people are still more concerned about getting through each day alive and safe.
Some folk are, little by little, cleaning up their areas but there's still so much waste to go through, and certainly, if we're aiming to get back on our feet and avoid future floods, people will need to pay attention to their garbage!
With so much stuff having gone through contaminated flood water, understandably, one can only salvage so much. Still, recycling does the world a whole lot of justice.
Sort out waste between biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and toxic waste materials (like batteries). In terms of waste management, this certainly helps reduce the piles and allows people to know where and how particular waste should be disposed.
Some of these facilities may have exchange areas for unused or leftover paints, solvents, pesticides, cleaning and automotive products, and other materials. By taking advantage of these facilities, materials can be used by someone else, rather than being thrown away.
If your community doesn't have collection facility at the moment, ask if there are any designated areas for collecting solid waste at a central location for communities to ensure safe management and disposal.
You might also suggest to drop off certain products at local businesses for recycling or proper disposal.
